My Property- A Pearl of Great Price
This morning, as I went about my usual Saturday motions, I found myself mulling over the stories of the treasure hidden in the field and of the Pearl of Great Price that Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 13. Somehow, my memory turned the pearl into the buried treasure, which is a hasty melding of both stories into one but I'm rolling with it this morning.
I had been thinking about our current situation on our new property and how we had sunk everything we had into buying this place because of the value we saw here. Value that transcends property value and renovation costs. The treasure we saw in this land was it's history and kingdom presence. This land has deep wells of peace that we found very desirable and like the man in the stories, we gave all that we had to obtain it.
I needed this story today and the mental pictures it conjured... needed them for the encouragement they offer as well as the Hope Anchor these visuals become when times get rough. I even started calling our crusty house The Pearl so that I could begin changing how I relate to it.
I'm beginning to see that even this process of renovating is a love letter from Papa God, speaking mysteries to my heart. He works in wonderfully holistic ways, addressing many different facets at once. I'm convinced that His contractor's gaze is fully focused on the project of renovating my heart first and as my inner world finds peace, so will my outer world. As my old view of myself falls away, so will the old walls of my house and we will be transformed together. If Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, then it takes a beholder to speak beauty into being for others to take notice. So, I will continue to call my crusty house The Pearl the same way my heavenly father has called me His Daughter, and soon, Beauty will be on display for all to see.
